This means we will be able to continue our vital work in South Yorkshire as well as share our expertise across the country. As an organisation SAFE LAST is unique and innovative as it provides a full range of services for young people at risk through running away from prevention to crisis intervention. SAFE LAST provides a 24 hour helpline that young people can call, text or webchat with, ongoing one to one support for young people and their families and an education and prevention programme that educates and informs children and young people on the risks and dangers of running away.

SAFE LAST supports young people who present to us with many complex issues including neglect, physical abuse, self harming, conflict and violence at home, sexual exploitation, mental health problems and many more.

SAFE LAST receives no statutory funding and can only continue to deliver its essential services and keep young people safe with the generous support of the community in which we work. Overall responsibility for the organisation is held by Depaul UK.

Safe At Last

Founder Hilary Massarella maintains a significant presence within the organisation. Day to day management of the services for young people have been developed to a high standard by the Director of Children and Young People's Services, Tracy Haycox. SAFE LAST is blessed with dedicated and hard working patrons who contribute to the charity's work in so many ways, we can always call on them to attend and speak at events and they are some of our very best ambassadors as they go about their own jobs and roles within the community.

Kevin has seen and supported the good work that has enabled SAFE LAST to grow from local beginnings to influencing a more comprehensive approach to services for young people at a national level. Lucy was bowled over by the young people and the difference that SAFE LAST was making and has been a constant and loyal supporter ever since; she agreed to become a patron shortly after that first meeting and is always happy to help out when it fits with her very busy work schedule.

Sometimes this may be a school but usually it is in a place identified by the young person where they feel comfortable to talk about the issues they are facing e. This support offers young people the chance to talk to an independent person about the reasons that led to them running away and provides help and support they need in order to not run away again. Some young people require emotional support and listening while others may need more practical support such as support to access health services.
