It been a while since I read the others and I am now catching back up on the series. The one thing I do not like is that you do need to read in order as the sub plots go in order.
Some how I wishes these were numbered so I know which to read. I have the next four ready to read and it was a bit confusing as to which to read next so I have kind of spoiled a few things. My other small complaint is that I do not remember the main character retelling so many parts of the story.

- Half-Price Homicide (Dead-End Job Mystery, #9) by Elaine Viets?
It almost seemed word for word. I did not mind the rebelling of past books to refresh my mind. Before the killing happens the author tells you exactly what happens and then the main character resells every thing to the Detective. And there are other times this happens agin. Non the less I still enjoyed the mind candy! One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase. The Dead End job series has a compelling main character and great real life details It's set in Ft. These books are relaxing. Read them in order to get the full development of the main character.
If you like the first one, buy the rest of them at one time so you can find out what happens. One person found this helpful. Helen Hawthorne works in a consignment shop with very high end designer clothes and there's a lot of expertise about rags and tchotchkes. A gigantic loose end, concerning the ex-husband's future, is left so as to get us hooked on the next one.
It was my first Elaine Viets, but won't be my last. Does anyone know what a pony-hair purse it. Is it really made of pony's hair woven into a fabric? The Dead End Mysteries are excellent. The premise is interesting and the writer provides good information on the jobs she does as part of her life, first because she has to live that way and second because she has found a few life that gives her more pleasure. This is one of the best of the series.
The only issue with this series is that she explains the premise in every one of the books which is redundant although understandable. I've read all the other books in the series and loved them. This wasn't as good for several reasons.
- Anemia in the Elderly!
- Pomp and Circumstance: Easy Solo Sheet Music For Flute.
- Half-Price Homicide.
- A History of Scottish Economic Thought (The Routledge History of Economic Thought).
- Stay At Home Dead (Stay At Home Dad Mysteries).
First, the ex-husband subplot was not worthy of the Helen's character and tarnishes her as a heroine. Not that Helen is a perfect heroine but this was not worthy of her - it sunk to a low that will make future novels hard to read. Second, there were plot holes here and there. This wouldn't have been an issue until they started piling up. Third, there were details that were never resolved Kathy, Jordan, Mark, Larry, Margery, Peggy, Vera which made the end of the novel unsatisfying and blunt.
Finally, while not everything gets wrapped up neatly with a bow, the ended came up very short. Since the pattern so far with the series is to tie up loose ends, not doing so for this novel made it a huge disappointment and shortchanged the fans of the series. I still recommend the book since it is a very entertaining romp with great characters and dialogue but this is not of the caliber of the other novels.
Dead-End Job Mystery: Half-Price Homicide 9 by Elaine Viets (2011, Paperback)
All of her books are outstanding. I can't wait for her next one. She is the master of who done its. I love this series. I finish one book and can't wait to read the next one. I had completely forgot about this series but I am happy I stumbled upon it again.
