You may remember that the Old Testament hymnal was made up of the Psalms. Very often the Psalms were just like our hymns of today. They are filled with thanksgiving and worship and praise.

The point was not just for the people of God to be able to worship and give thanks and praise the Lord, but to also be reminded that the Lord their God is the Lord the only true God. The worship, thanksgiving and praise that the Old Testament people offered and the New Testament people offered and you and I offer today, we are reminded of the praise that is due to the Lord our God. We hear time and again there is no god like him, and we see that in our lives. The Lord reflects this sentiment through the prophet Isaiah when he says: I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols" Isaiah So we have gathered together today, because we are not going to give the glory of the Lord to someone else.

We are not going to give the praise of the Lord to idols, but to God who deserves it. With that in mind, we want to look at Psalm , considering that theme:. As the heading says, this is a Psalm of David. We want to remember David briefly.

David was the youngest son of a family that was made up of a lot of sons. When the Lord wanted a new king to replace King Saul, David was the chosen one. But David was out in the fields as a shepherd because he was the youngest son. Still, God chose him; and he took him from the field and from being a shepherd over a flock of sheep to being a king over the sheep of Israel. God dwells close to us when we praise Him.

Heart of Worship

He looks for it. God shakes things up through praise. As Paul and Silas sat in prison, shackled, and chained, they kept right on praising God. And God sent an earthquake that shook the cells and broke the chains. The jailer and all his family came to know Christ that very night.

And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's bonds were unfastened. We have a choice every day in this life.

To live absorbed in worry and stress, on the fast track of busy, focused only on what surrounds us, tuned into the roar of the world. Or, we can ask God to help us take our eyes off all that may be swirling around, our problems and mess, or the voices of others. And we can look up God desires our whole heart. He waits for us to return. He longs for us to know the power of His presence over our lives. His Spirit urges us onward, calling us closer.

11 Bible verses about Worship With The Heart

We praise you today with our hearts and songs, we praise you for your faithfulness, we praise you for your great power and love. We confess our need for you, our lives don't go so well when we just spin around on our own. We struggle and worry, get weary and worn.
